So here is how it turned out...
And one of my wee man because he is just so cute :)
Here is a recipe for clean dough if you are brave enough!
Whole Wheat Pizza Dough
- 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons lukewarm water, (105-115°F)
- 1 package active dry yeast, (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups whole-wheat flour, plus additional for dusting
- 2 tablespoons yellow cornmeal
1. Stir water, yeast, and salt in a large bowl; let stand until the yeast has dissolved, about 5 minutes. Stir in whole-wheat flour and cornmeal until the dough begins to come together.
2. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured work surface. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes. (Alternatively, mix the dough in a food processor. Process until it forms a ball, then process for 1 minute to knead.)
3. Place the dough in an oiled bowl and turn to coat. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and set aside in a warm, draft-free place until doubled in size, about 1 hour. Individual variation: The dough can be turned into 4 or 6 personal-size pizzas. After kneading, divide the dough into 4 or 6 equal balls. Brush with oil and place 3 inches apart on a baking sheet. Cover and set aside until doubled in size, about 1 hour. Roll each portion into a 6-to-8-inch circle.
And here's a recipe for clean barbeque sauce, if you can be bothered ;) Or you can see if you can find a barbeque sauce with low sugar or no added sugar. You may be able to find a healthy version at a local health food store.
Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp. canola oil
- 1 small white onion, diced small
- 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- 1 can (6 oz.) tomato paste
- 2 tsp. ground mustard
- 1 can (28 oz.) tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup unsulfured molasses (you can substitute this with dark agave nectar)
- 2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 3 tbsp. white vinegar
- 1 1/2 tsp. ground pepper
- In a medium saucepan, heat canola oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until completely soft, approximately 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook about 1 minute.
- Add the tomato paste and mustard. Stirring constantly, cook until paste turns a bright red in color, approximately 5 minutes. Add 2 cups water, tomato sauce, molasses, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, salt and pepper. Stir until smooth.
- Bring mixture to a simmer, reduce heat to low, and cover partially. Stirring occasionally, simmer for 2 hours. You can thin the sauce down with water if it becomes too thick. Add more vinegar, salt and/or pepper to taste (if desired).
- Let completely cool before using.
Looks AMAZING!! What kind of toppings did you use? And did Geppy love it? Great job sis!
ReplyDeleteI used BBQ sauce and then chicken, peppers, onions, and cheese. Yes Geoff liked it :)
